For the first editing example, let's looking at branching to edit an existing page and publishing your changes.

To do this, the steps are

  1. Log in your instance, hosted in the cloud
  2. Find the page you want to edit and branch it so you can make your changes without affecting the live content
  3. Use the workflow to publish a version for review. This usually means deploying the page to the stage server
  4. Approve and launch to your site visitors

Summary

Log in to edit in the cloud

  1. Login to the CMS with your username and password.
  2. The first time you log in, take the product tour to get familiar with the navigation and features. It's always available from the Preferences drop down, in the top right corner if you need to take it again.
  3. From the View menu,choose the Workspace that fits the task at hand. We've created a few pre-configured Workspaces to get you started. Today, we'll stick with the default.
  4. Use the File View panel to navigate to your page. Expand the tree to navigate or search find your page based on name or I.D.
  5. BTW, you can always use the globe to get home.
  6. Once you find the page you want to edit, branch it.

Branch to edit your page

  1. Branching is the best way to edit live content. By branching, you create a copy that can be edited and previewed without affecting your live site.
  2. Branch by first selecting a page or image.
  3. Right-click or go to Edit menu and select Branch.
  4. The purple brace to the left will indicate branched files.
  5. Start making changes to your new branch. It will be in the draft state. You can edit in the form and inline modes, which we will demo in the next chapter. 
  6. Save and preview to verify your updates.
  7. Note that the UI now supports simultaneous previewing and editing of assets via tabs, so you can have both branches open simultaneously to compare.
    • Clicking on the tab changes the overall context of the CMS, and you can see that reflected in the File View Panel which adjusts its content location based on the selected asset.
  8. Once you are happy with your changes, your will use the workflow to send the page for review.

Use the workflow to publish a version to review. This usually means deploying the page to the stage server.

  1. Located below the Tabs is the Content Action Bar, which shows all the available options for the selected asset, such as:
    • The Reload button;
    • The Device Selector dropdown.
    • The Output Selector.
    • The Editing (Inline and Form) and Preview modes.
    • The Save button.
    • Workflow options.
    • And the Sync tool, which is a new feature to assist with syncing panels in case tab switching fails.
  2. From the Content Action Bar, select the Workflow option and choose Stage to deploy your changes to the staging server for review before making them public.
  3. Use Last Published View, a new feature of the UI, to choose and view the link for the staging server.

Approve and launch to your site visitors

  1. Once you have completed your review on stage, you will use the same steps to use the workflow and deploy the page live for all your site visitors to see.
  2. BTW, you can also use the right-click or Edit menu to access the Workflow option.
  3. When you refresh the File View panel, you will see the branch that was live, retired automatically.
  4. Use Last Published View to check your newly updated live page.
