Virginia State Web Site To Use CrownPeak Technology To Provide Content Management
CrownPeak, Virginia Portal Manager Partner to Enable CMS Services for Commonwealth of Virginia Homepage, Offer Special Program for Virginia Government Webmasters.
MARINA DEL REY, Calif. (May 15, 2002) —
CrownPeak Technology, the premier content management ASP, today announced that it will implement the CrownPeak CMS™ content management system (CMS) in partnership with Virginia Interactive, Inc., the network manager of the Virginia’s official state portal (see www.myvirginia.org). Virginia Interactive manages the MyVirginia portal, a gateway that provides Virginia’s citizens and businesses access to government information, and serves under contract with the Virginia Information Providers Network (VIPNet) Authority. In addition, CrownPeak and Virginia Interactive announced that they have formed a partnership to bring CrownPeak CMS to state and local government Web managers throughout Virginia.
VIPNet assists Virginia government entities in Web-enabling their information services. Through VIPNet, Virginia Interactive will deploy CrownPeak’s flagship Advantage CMS across the state portal to standardize navigation and develop dynamic templates for efficiently updating both content and navigation. Advantage CMS will enable Virginia Interactive to administer and modify the system through a simple but powerful browser-based user interface. Virginia Interactive is a subsidiary of the e-government company NIC.
“As the official homepage for the Commonwealth of Virginia, MyVirginia is the gateway site to every Virginia government related resource, with information ranging from government elections data to travel and tourism,” said Rodney Willett, general manager of VIPNet. “MyVirginia is the main vehicle for visitors to access the wealth of information on doing business, traveling, living or relocating in Virginia. We needed a tool that would manage our extensive content while making that content easily accessible to site visitors -- and all within our strict budget. After reviewing many other potential choices, it became clear that CrownPeak CMS is that tool.”
“MyVirginia is an ideal candidate for CMS outsourcing because of the volume of content that flows through the portal demands an enterprise-level solution. But as a governmental organization, the portal needed to be up-and-running much more affordably than an internally managed solution could deliver,” said Jim Howard, CEO, CrownPeak. “The implementation of CrownPeak CMS at MyVirginia will ease system administration, which will not only enhance the quality of information available to the Virginia business community, but will also affect government, hospitality, education and non-profit organizations throughout Virginia.”
As an added element of the partnership, CrownPeak and Virginia Interactive will offer CrownPeak CMS to government Web managers across the state at a specially discounted price. With Virginia Interactive providing a live product demonstration and showcase site, CrownPeak will seek to engage customers through hands-on experience rather than from more conventional marketing campaigns.
Earlier this year, CrownPeak announced development of tailored content management systems for two major educational and non-profit entities, in an overall move to highlight the potential of outsourced content management to rapidly and cost-effectively assist organizations that heretofore struggled to afford world-class CMS systems. As an extension of that program, CrownPeak has worked with Virginia Interactive to develop a special program for state and local governments.
“Government clients have special needs, and we built our system to accommodate these needs,” Howard said. “Complete content versioning, fully configurable workflow and approval systems, and advanced security measures are all native to our system. Communication with other systems, or sharing of content via Web Services, is key to making our government clients more flexible and forward compatible. In addition, because we offer the option of a fully turnkey implementation – in less than four weeks -- we can help government entities to be more agile. We know that many government agencies are impatient with the speed of solving problems, and we’ve fully taken care of that concern.”
CrownPeak recently developed a new, unified events calendaring system for the University of Southern California (USC) that makes the task of updating the ever-changing university events calendar dramatically simpler and more affordable than alternative approaches. At the same time, the company overhauled an extensive resource library for LISC, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, a national non-profit agency focused on neighborhood redevelopment.
CrownPeak CMS provides all the powerful features of a world-class CMS at a fraction of the cost and time commitment required by packaged solutions. Its easy-to-use Web interfaces enable users to maintain and edit content in any format as text, images, movies or any hybrid medium. The administrative interfaces and application code are hosted on high-availability servers, where CrownPeak backs up, maintains and extends the system. As an enterprise-level content management system, Advantage CMS is highly inter-operable with other systems and applications. Connection options available to developers include SOAP, XML, FTP, HTTP, SMTP and ODBC.
