CrownPeak Intranet FAQ CrownPeak Intranet FAQ

Q: Does CrownPeak provide everything for an intranet or extranet?
A:  Yes.  Whether you need content management, search authentication/security, hosting or even design for your intranet CrownPeak can provide you with a complete solution.

Q: What’s the difference between an intranet and an extranet?
A:  They are similar.  Typically an Intranet is secured for just employees of the organization.  An extranet, on the other hand, is usually available to partners, customers or other people who might be external to the organization.  In the end, both are simply access-controlled, secure web sites.

Q: What software or hardware do we need to use the CrownPeak Intranet/Extranet Solution?
A: None. CrownPeak provides all of the software and hardware required, as part of the standard monthly fees.

Q: We already have LDAP running internally.  Can CrownPeak connect to that and/or other Directory Services?
A: Yes, if you’d like us to do that.  We can connect into LDAP so that your employees who use CrownPeak’s software will be automatically logged into the software if they are logged into the company intranet or network.

Q: We have tens of thousands of documents we’d like to make a part of the Intranet/Extranet.  Does CrownPeak help with that problem?
A:  We can.  Whether it’s creating the ability to search through a large repository of documents, or the initial upload into the Intranet/Extranet CrownPeak can help you get up and running.   We can work with almost any document or file type.

Q: We want to allow site visitors to add content to the intranet, but want to be able to approve that content before it goes live.  Is that possible?
A:  Yes.  Because CrownPeak CMS is so flexible, we can enable “email content” into the system.  In this approach, a web form is available on your Intranet, and the users will contribute content via this web form.  That content is then emailed directly into the CMS where it becomes an Asset.  At that point, the Intranet Editor can review the content, approve it, and it’s then published to the appropriate place on the Intranet.  In this way, we can also handle wireless input.

Q: We want to be able to host the intranet/extranet on our own servers.  Is that possible with CrownPeak?
A:  Yes.  You can certainly choose to host your own intranet/extranet.  We don’t require you to host your web site or your intranet/extranet with CrownPeak.  You can choose any combination of services that make sense for your organization.

Q: We have sensitive documents and data that can’t go “outside of the firewall”.  Can CrownPeak manage those types of documents?
A:  If you have content that cannot go outside of the firewall under any circumstances, then CrownPeak (or any other Software Service) will not be a good solution for you.  As a hosted application, the content is managed in a highly secure and redundant data center at IBM.   Although we have extraordinarily high security capabilities, including connecting to your site via encrypted connection or even VPN – if the content is not allowed to be outside the firewall, then hosted applications are simply not an option.
