Q: How does CrownPeak Web Hosting work? A: CrownPeak does not require that you host
your web site with CrownPeak, but offers it as a choice for customers who want a
one-stop shop. CrownPeak has
chosen two of the top providers in web hosting with which to partner – IBM and Rackspace. We offer a number
of web hosting packages based on your needs. CrownPeak will work with the hosting
provider to get the system up and running and will manage that relationship for
you. That way, our hosting
customers work directly with their CrownPeak Account Manager, and he/she will
manage and support hosting and every other Web Site Management service purchased
from CrownPeak.
Q: Does CrownPeak host sites
in its own data center? A: We use IBM’s data center in Southern
California to host our content management, search, and authentication
applications. For web hosting, we
utilize data centers by both IBM and Rackspace. We believe that it’s of great
benefit to have the CMS and Search applications managed from separate data
centers – because it provides for an added level of redundancy for the content
of the web site.
Q: How much does CrownPeak Web Hosting cost? A: There are a number of
packages available designed to fit your needs. CrownPeak offers everything from
basic shared hosting for a few hundred dollars per month to dedicated, managed
hosting for a few thousand dollars per month.
Q: Why do we want to buy web hosting from CrownPeak and not directly from the web hosting
provider? A: CrownPeak handles all of the things that
you shouldn’t have to worry about.
Your CrownPeak Account Manager can act as your single point of contact
for your web site’s entire infrastructure, including hosting. CrownPeak charges a monthly management
fee, over our cost for web hosting, so it’s possible to buy web hosting a bit
less expensively, but probably not with better support and service.
Q: Can we install our own
applications and have direct access to our machines with CrownPeak’s hosting packages? A: Yes, with some of them you can. With the Basic Shared hosting packages,
you will be limited to certain directories and the kinds of applications that
you can implement. However,
starting with the Dedicated packages, you have full run of your own machine and
can install anything you’d like.
Q: Does CrownPeak hosting do backups? A: Yes. Starting with the Dedicated hosting
levels, individualized backup plans are standard with the packages. These backup services will back up
any level of data on your machine – including making a full mirror of your hard
drive if you choose. With
shared hosting packages, backups are included, but restoration and other
disaster recovery processes aren’t guaranteed as they are in the dedicated h
osting packages.
Q: Does CrownPeak Hosting
provide a Service Level Agreement, guaranteeing uptime,
etc.? A: Yes, for every
package above our Basic Shared Hosting, CrownPeak and IBM or Rackspace provide a
Service Level Agreement for guaranteed uptime for web hosting.
Q: Can we get something
different from the standard packages? A: At the Dedicated Level – the answer is
yes. If you have unique
requirements that differ from our packaged offerings, we are glad to provide you
with information direct from "Rackspace and IBM to meet your needs.
Q: Does CrownPeak provide web analytics as part of the hosting service? A: Yes, we can. With the Basic, shared hosting packages,
the packages come with basic analytics packages such as Urchin. For more sophisticated web analytics, we can provide other types of Analytics Packages.
