Don't Even Think About Commercial Software or Open Source!

Management
Systems exist to enable people to manage web sites.
However, in a horrible
and almost never discussed twist, most content
management implementations only
help people to update content.
They fail utterly to enable rapid
changes to the web site
itself. CrownPeak enables our customers
to update
content - of course - but also to continually change and upgrade
their web sites. Content management systems can't do new things
unless
there is a services organization there to make changes.
For example, what
happens when it's time to add a new type of page, a
new site section, a new
"mini-site", or publish in a new language to a
new server or to RSS or
wireless? What happens when we want
to adjust a workflow step or
change the layout of the homepage?
It's the services tied to the
technology that make all of that
happen.
So...don't buy a
commercial application, open source tool or custom-developed tool
unless you
have a services organization willing, and committed to
economically make changes
to the system whenever needed -- for the
next 5+ years. Don't even
think about it!
